RB Leipzig set to add to Mainz woes

On Saturday afternoon, RB Leipzig take their title bid to relegation-threatened Mainz, in a game that could be pivotal at both ends of the Bundesliga table.

Mainz are in desperate need of points in the German top-flight, as the home team heads into this game 17th place in the table, a massive eight points adrift of the relegation play-off spot.

The appointment of former player Bo Svensson as head coach has done little to change the club's fortunes. The only real bright spot since the appointment of the Dane was a 1-1 draw at Dortmund, although BVB did miss several chances, including a penalty kick.

A 2-0 home defeat last time out in the German top-flight against Wolfsburg means that the home side has now failed to win in their previous nine league games while suffering six defeats in the run.

Their home record of just one victory in 14 league matches at the OPEL Arena is one of the reasons the Svensson’s side are in such trouble.

Second place RB Leipzig are five points behind reigning champions and leaders Bayern Munich in the race to win the Bundesliga. A recent inconsistent run of league form from Die Roten Bullen has certainly not helped their chances of dethroning Hansi Flick’s team this season.

Leipzig at least got back to winning ways last time out by recording a 1-0 win against surprise-package Union Berlin. The win ended a mini two-game winless run in the German top-flight for Julian Nagelsmann’s team.

The visitors are unbeaten in five away matches in the Bundesliga. They have also lost just one of their previous 15 away games in the German top-flight. Their recent away matches in the top-flight have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last eight games.

Forebet predicts that RB Leipzig will record a victory in a high-scoring encounter to add to Mainz problems at the bottom of the table.
