A 2-1 defeat at home to Nimes on the weekend prevented Wednesday night’s hosts, Marseille, a chance to close the gap on the top six in Ligue 1 but the hosts have another chance to redeem themselves when they play host to Lens at their Orange Velodrome.

After recording an impressive six-match winning streak earlier in this French top flight campaign, Marseille’s form has taken somewhat of a nose-dive in recent times as they’ve managed to pick up just the one win out of their last six matches overall, which came in the shape of a 3-1 victory at home over Montpellier.

But although Olympique Marseille have lost their last two away matches on the trot, the hosts still possess a fairly reasonable looking home record which includes losing just two of their nine matches to date while wins against Bordeaux, Nantes, Monaco and Montpellier should still give them belief in returning to winning ways on Tuesday night.

In addition, Marseille have held the upper hand over Lens in recent exchanges, winning the last four meetings on the trot against their visitors.

Lens head into this midweek clash in Ligue 1 away at Marseille having failed to win any of their last three matches, losing twice and picking up a draw which means the visitors have earned just one point from the last possible nine on offer.

Defeats to Lyon 3-2 away and a 1-0 loss at home to Strasbourg have contributed to Lens dropping down the Ligue 1 table to a mid-table position of 10th which is just about right as the visitors have produced an inconsistent campaign so far in Ligue 1 this season.

Victories on the road have been sporadic although they did put together a three-match winning streak on the road with wins at Dijon, Rennes and Monaco.

Since then, the visitors have lost two of their last three matches on their travels and face a Marseille outfit on Tuesday night whom they’ve struggled against in previous exchanges.

The bigger picture shows that Lens have won just four out of their last 23 matches away from home in Ligue 1 which also includes 14 defeats, so it looks like they’ll have their work cut out here as well, as Marseille look to close the gap on the top six.
