RB Leipzig will no doubt be eyeing off all three points on Wednesday night when they play host to 5th placed Union Berlin at their Red Bull Arena as the hosts look to return to winning ways in a bid to close the gap on Bundesliga leaders, Bayern Munich, to just one point.
A previous impressive unbeaten run of eight matches without defeat in the German top flight was recently brought to an end when RB Leipzig suffered a heavy 3-1 defeat at home to Borussia Dortmund but the hosts will look back to recent wins against Freiburg, Arminia Bielefeld, Werder Bremen, Hoffenheim and Stuttgart for inspiration.
Wednesday night’s hosts have lost just twice throughout this season’s Bundesliga campaign while form and results on home turf at their Red Bull Arena have been solid as the hosts have won six of their eight matches played so far this term.
Only league leaders, Bayer Munich, have also recorded six home wins to date in the Bundesliga while RB Leipzig also possess the best defensive record at home in the division too.
Union Berlin have also put together a strong sequence of results in the Bundesliga this season as the visitors currently occupy 5th place in the German top flight which has been helped by a six-match unbeaten run prior to this midweek clash away at RB Leipzig.
Union Berlin have won three out of their last four matches as well with victories gained over Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen, although two of these three recent wins were collected on home turf at their Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
Nevertheless, Union Berlin have also impressed on their travels this season too as the visitors have suffered just one defeat out of their seven matches to date on the road, while wins at Hoffenheim, Koln and Werder Bremen will give the Berlin outfit plenty of confidence ahead of this clash.
However, whilst Union Berlin have produced an encouraging campaign so far this season and have held their own for the majority of their matches, they possess a poor record in recent times against their hosts.
Union Berlin have lost in each of the previous three meetings, 3-1, 4-0 and 3-0 respectively and a fourth defeat on the trot could be on the cards here.
