Alaves were sent crashing out of the Copa del Rey by lower league opponents Almeria at the weekend, while Sevilla progressed through to the next round with a 1-0 win at for La Liga outfit, Leganes.

Attention shifts back to the league tomorrow night as Alaves look to put more distance between themselves and the bottom three with a win, while Sevilla can move back into the top five with a victory of their own.

When these two sides clash the games are more than often tight, tense and closely fought, with the last seven league meetings between the two clubs producing under 2.5 goals.

Only one 2-0 victory has been recorded during that period but Sevilla are unbeaten in the pair’s last five encounters, picking up three wins and two draws.

Deportivo Alaves have lost three of their last five matches in all competitions and their only win during that period arrived in the Copa del Ray against lower league opposition.

Sevilla have won four of their last six fixtures and their only defeat arrived at the hands of the league leaders, Atletico Madrid. Most of Sevilla’s recent matches have been low scoring, with five of their last six outings in league and cup producing under 2.5 goals.

Alberto Rodriquez is suspended for the home side and Rodrigo Ely is set to be out of action until February with a ligament injury. Sevilla have Fernando suspended and Sergio Escudero is confirmed injured. Tomas Vaclik and Carlos Fernandez could return if they pass late fitness tests.

Sevilla have outperformed Alaves in all departments this season and head into Tuesday’s clash as the clear form favourites. A tight, tense and low-scoring affair is still expected between the two clubs, as has been the case in their recent encounters in La Liga.

However, Sevilla have the class and quality about them to claim a narrow 1-0 victory. The visitors have kept clean sheets in three of their last six matches and will be confident that they can carve out another one against struggling Alaves.
