RB Leipzig made it five clean sheets on the run in all competitions last weekend as they secured a 1-0 win away at Stuttgart. Forsberg missed a penalty in the first half but, thankfully, it didn’t matter in the end as Olmo netted the only goal of the game for the visitors in the 67th-minute.
Dortmund haven’t been the force many predicted they would be this season, but the club still managed to beat Wolfsburg 2-0 last time out and sit 4th in the Bundesliga table.
Both goals arrived in the second half, first through Akanji in the 66th-minute and then Sancho in stoppage time.
The visitors have had the better of RB Leipzig in recent seasons, but the hosts sit 6pts and two places above their guests heading into Saturday’s clash.
Under 2.5 goals have been produced in three of the pair’s last five encounters in the Bundesliga, suggesting that this weekend’s match is also likely to be tight and tense.
Under 2.5 goals have also been produced in four of RB Leipzig’s last five fixtures and in each of Dortmund’s last two outings. As mentioned above, RB Leipzig are enjoying an excellent clean sheets run right now and haven’t conceded a single goal in their last five matches in league and cup.
The hosts have scored 7-goals in their last five matches, while Dortmund have conceded 8-goals in their last five fixtures.
Nordi Mukiele, Justin Kluivert, Christopher Nkunku, Ibrahima Konate, Benjamin Henrichs and Konrad Laimer all missed out last weekend through injury, but Kluivert is expected back soon.
Dortmund could be without the services of Jude Billingham, Thorgan Hazard, Youssoufa Moukoko and Marcel Schmelzer for the trip to Leipzig. However, Hazard and Moukoko are expected to return in early January.
Form favours the hosts this weekend with RB Leipzig winning five and drawing one of their last six matches, while Dortmund have lost two and won four of their last six in league and cup.
Due to their excellent defensive performances of late, and the fact that Dortmund have dropped points in games they would usually win this season, a home victory accompanied by a clean sheet could be on the cards.
