The BayArena provides the venue for this Saturday’s clash between Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich which is undoubtedly the clash of this weekend’s action in the Bundesliga as the ‘pretenders’, Bayer Leverkusen, look to topple the ‘contenders’, Bayern Munich.
It’s been a great start to this new German top flight for the hosts, Bayer Leverkusen, who sit at the top of the Bundesliga with a one point lead over 2nd placed Bayern Munich (at the time of writing), and this solid start to the campaign has been helped by still remaining unbeaten this term.
Draws with RB Leipzig 1-1 and Hertha Berlin 0-0 have been overshadowed by impressive wins against Augsburg 3-1, Borussia Moenchengladbach 4-3 and a resounding 4-1 victory over Hoffenheim as the hosts have found the back of the net on a regular basis at home this season.
Indeed, goals have featured in the majority of home matches at the BayArena as the bigger picture shows that nine of Bayer Leverkusen’s last 13 games have resulted in over 2.5 goals being scored.
Bayern Munich have also made their familiar sound start to this new German top flight campaign as they sit in 2nd spot and just a point behind their hosts prior to this blockbuster on Saturday at the BayArena.
Unlike Bayer Leverkusen though, Bayern Munich have tasted defeat this season, albeit just the once, but this was a heavy 4-1 thrashing away from home at Hoffenheim, and this has been the difference between the two sides as they tussle for top spot in the Bundesliga this weekend.
Bayern are no strangers to scoring goals though and their goalscoring prowess has once again been underlined by emphatic wins against Schalke 8-0, Arminia Bielefeld 4-1, Eintracht Frankfurt 5-0 and a 3-1 win on the road at Stuttgart with the visitors already plundering a total of 35 goals to date from their opening 11 matches of this season.
In addition, Bayern have won 14 of their last 16 away matches in the domestic top flight, while 12 of these 16 matches have also resulted in over 2.5 goals.
Each of the previous eight meetings between these two teams have produced at least three goals or more and this trend looks set to continue this Saturday as they wrestle for top spot in the Bundesliga.
