On Wednesday night, Ajax host Midtjylland at the Johan Cruyff Arena, as the Dutch team looks to enhance their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Ajax head into this game second place in Group D, but only above third-place Atalanta on goal difference. Erik ten Hag’s team have picked up four points from their opening three group games this season. Last time out in the competition, the Dutch champions recorded a 2-1 away win the reverse fixture. The victory could be a turning point for the home sides European campaign.

The win was only Ajax’s second win in their last seven games in Europe’s elite competition.
The team from the Dutch capital have a poor recent home record in the Champions League, winning just three of their last ten games at the Johan Cruyff Arena. A 1-0 home defeat against Liverpool last time out in European football’s elite competition was their third straight home defeat in the Champions League.
Midtjylland have not surprised many in the group, as the Danish team has suffered defeat in all three of their Group D matches. They have also conceded at least two goals in all three of their games in the Champions League, including the defeat in the reverse fixture. At the other end of the pitch, Midtjylland have scored just once in their group games this season.
The team from Denmark have a mixed recent record on their travels in the Champions League, although they have claimed four wins from six away games in the competition. It must be said that most of those games on their travels have been in the qualifying rounds.
Forebet predicts that Ajax will record a victory in a low-scoring encounter that could prove to be vital for the Dutch team.
