Aston Villa to post second straight win in the PL

Dean Smith’s Aston Villa have been a surprise package in the Premier League this season. The Villains have taken 15 points from 21 possible and sit in sixth place.

On Saturday, the Villains will welcome Brighton to Villa Park with the hopes of picking up a second straight league win. Brighton are 16th in the league with six points taken from 24 possible. Three of those six points have come in the Seagulls last four games.

Graham Potter’s team have drawn three of their last four games in the league. The Seagulls are coming off of a nil-nil draw with Burnley in their last game. Just three points separate Brighton from the relegation zone.

They need a win to move further away from the bottom three, but playing against a good Aston Villa team will make it difficult to get any points at all. The Villains are unbeaten in their last two games versus Brighton in the league.

Aston Villa claimed a 2-1 win at Villa Park last season. Adam Webster opened the scoring for Brighton in the first half, but just before halftime, Jack Grealish equalised for Aston Villa. With the game heading toward a 1-1 draw, full-back Matt Targett popped up to claim the winner in the 90th minute.

The reverse fixture between the clubs finished 1-1. Again, Aston Villa came from behind to get points. Leandro Trossard opened the scoring in the 38th minute only for Grealish to level the score in the 75th minute.

Smith has Bertrand Traore back from injury and in line to start the game. Kortney Hause is still recovering from an injury and will undergo a late fitness test. Meanwhile, Frederic Guilbert and Bjorn Engels are both ruled out.

Potter has nine players suffering from injuries. Solomon March is fit after recovering from an ankle issue. He should start. Trossard must undergo a late fitness test in the build-up to the game.

Davy Propper must also take a fitness test. Aaron Connolly should be fit to play, but Florin Andone and Alexis Mac Allister are ruled out of the game.

Aston Villa have lost back-to-back home games. That losing streak should come to an end this weekend. Brighton are a struggling team and should fall to a win away at Villa Park.

Like last season’s game at Villa Park, Aston Villa should claim a victory with both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals tallied.
