Group B3 of the Nations League is one of the most open in the competition as we head into round six of fixtures. In fact, Russia, Hungary and Turkey could all still win promotion to League A.
Two of those teams, Hungary and Turkey meet on Wednesday night at the Puskas Arena, seemingly with so much to play for.
The home team are currently second in the group, level on points with group leaders Russia. However, Russia have a superior goal difference and look to have an easier game, as they face the group’s bottom team Serbia in their last match.
Turkey are third, two points behind the top two in the group. The visitors would need to beat Hungary and hope that Russia don’t beat Serbia.
Even then Turkey would need a two-goal swing, so would have to record a big win at the Puskas Arena to achieve promotion.
The home side head into this clash in decent form, as they are currently unbeaten in five international matches. Last time out, Marco Rossi’s team could only draw with Serbia, a result that could prove fatal to their promotion chances.
Hungary have been highly inconsistent on home soil of late in the Nations League, winning just three of their previous seven home games in the fledgeling competition. They will also be without Bundesliga-based trio Peter Gulasci, Willi Orban and Adam Szalai for this clash.
Turkey knows that the odds are against them to winning promotion considering their position.
However, the visitors are unbeaten in six matches, including recording a 3-2 home win over group leaders Russia last time out. On the flip-side, they have also recorded just two wins in their last ten international matches.
Forebet predicts that Hungary will record a victory in a low-scoring game. Whether that would be enough for promotion depends on the result in the other Group B3 game.
