It seems that Schalke’s 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign is continuing in the same vein as last season, as the Royal Blues head into Friday night’s home game against league new boys Stuttgart without a victory in 21 league games. Their last Bundesliga win was way back in January.
The team from Gelsenkirchen suffered a 3-0 defeat at Dortmund in the Revierderby last time out. The derby result leaves Manuel Baum’s 17th place in the Bundesliga table.
Only the struggles of their rivals have given the Royal Blues hopes of avoiding being cut adrift at the bottom end of the German top-flight table.
Schalke’s biggest problem of late in the Bundesliga has been conceding too many goals, as the home team have now conceded at least two goals in seven of their previous eight outings in the German top-flight. They have not exactly been great at the other end of the pitch either, as they have failed to score in four of their last six league matches.
Stuttgart are enjoying a solid return to the Bundesliga, having picked up eight points from their opening five outings in the German top-flight. A 1-1 draw with Koln last time out means that the new boys are unbeaten in four games in the Bundesliga.
Their recent league matches have been relatively low-scoring, tight affairs, as there has been under 2.5 goals scored in their previous three Bundesliga games.
Stuttgart have won both of their away games in the Bundesliga this season, winning 4-1 at Mainz before a 2-0 victory at out-of-form Hertha Berlin.
The victories mean that they are three away games unbeaten in the German top-flight dating back to their last spell in the top-flight. Their last away game in season 2018/19 was a goalless draw at Schalke.
Forebet predicts that Stuttgart will come away from Gelsenkirchen with a victory in a high-scoring clash to further deepen the home sides current crisis.
