Following midweek Europa League wins for both sides, Arsenal and Leicester City clash at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.

Both teams have won three and lost two of their five league games this season, with fourth-place Leicester sitting just ahead of fifth-place Arsenal on goal difference.

Back-to-back victories over Fulham (3-0) and West Ham (2-1) saw the Gunners win their opening two games, but they were beaten convincingly by Liverpool (3-1) on Matchday 3.

Mikel Arteta’s men returned to winning ways with a victory over Sheffield United (2-1), although they couldn’t prevent Manchester City (1-0) from claiming all three points last weekend.

Arsenal haven’t had any problems against the lesser teams in the division, but they have struggled to compete with the country’s top sides this season.

Still, the Gunners came from behind to beat Rapid Vienna on Thursday, with goals from David Luiz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang handing Arteta’s side the victory in Austria.

Looking at the bigger picture, Arsenal have only lost five of their last 30 home games in all competitions and are unbeaten in their last 11.

On the flip side, Leicester began with three high-scoring wins, thrashing West Brom (3-0), Burnley (4-2) and Man City (5-2) in their opening three outings.

However, Brendan Rodgers’ side heads into Sunday’s clash on the back of successive defeats, losing 3-0 to West Ham and 1-0 to Aston Villa.

The Foxes returned to winnings ways in midweek, with goals from James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Kelechi Iheanacho handing them a 3-0 victory over Ukrainian side Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League.

Leicester will be eager to end a run of two Premier League games without scoring, so the return of Jamie Vardy from injury will give the team a huge boost.

Vardy – who has five goals in four league games this term – missed the match in midweek, although he is expected to be fit to face Arsenal.

Head-to-head: Arsenal have already beaten Leicester this season, with a 2-0 victory coming in the EFL Cup in September.

However, the Foxes were unbeaten in three games against the Gunners prior to that, with two wins and a draw coming since Arsenal’s last league win in this fixture back in 2018.

Team news: Gabriel Martinelli, Pablo Mari, Calum Chambers and Rob Holding remain sidelined for Arsenal, while Dani Ceballos and Willian are both doubts.

Caglar Soyuncu, Daniel Amartey, Wilfred Ndidi and Ricardo Pereira are long-term absentees for Leicester, but as mentioned, Jamie Vardy should return to the team.

With Leicester losing their last two Premier League games, it’s fair to say that the momentum will be with Arsenal heading into the weekend.

Forebet predicts that Arsenal will score over 1.5 goals on their way to beating Leicester on Sunday.
