The WWK Arena is the venue of our next German top flight preview which features the encounter between Augsburg and Borussia Dortmund with both teams keen to build upon winning starts in last weekend’s Bundesliga season-openers.
Taking a look at Augsburg first, and the hosts secured a valuable 3-1 win away from home at Union Berlin to start their new Bundesliga campaign in perfect fashion and although they’ll be taking on last season’s runners-up, Borussia Dortmund, this Saturday, they’ll at least hold home advantage.

To not only pick up all three points on the opening day of this new season but to achieve this away from home would have been the perfect tonic for Augsburg who struggled throughout last season and eventually finished just one league position above the relegation play-off place, so the hosts will understand the importance of maintaining this excellent start.
With just two wins from their final 14 matches of last term, Augsburg will be keen to set the record straight here, but goals look the more likely outcome in this clash as 76% of their home matches last season resulted in over 2.5 goals.
Borussia Dortmund will be eager to go one step better this season after finishing runners-up to perennial Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, at the end of last season but the gulf between Bayern and the ‘also-rans’ doesn’t appear to be reducing in size anytime soon.
Despite their successful campaign, Dortmund still finished some 13 points adrift of the champions but qualification for this season’s Champions League sweetened the blow for the visitors as they look to register back-to-back wins on the domestic front this weekend.
Dortmund recorded a convincing 3-0 home win over Borussia Moenchengladbach on the opening day of this new Bundesliga season last weekend and having also racked up six wins on the trot on the road towards the end of last term, Dortmund look in good shape to collect all three points at Augsburg.
Goals also featured on a regular basis when Dortmund hit the road last season with 71% of their away matches resulting in over 2.5 goals while their last six wins on the trot saw the visitors score 2 goals in five of these six and included a 6-1 rout of Paderborn.
Each of the previous four meetings between these two sides have resulted in over 2.5 goals and this trend could well continue on Saturday.
