Ferencvaros welcome Dinamo Zagreb to Groupama Arena on Wednesday in the third qualifying round for the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League.

Ferencvaros finished 13 points clear at the top of the Hungarian top-flight last season, losing just three of their 33 league games in 2019/20.

Not only were Ferencvaros the highest scorers in Hungary’s leading tier, but they also finished with the best defensive record in the division.

Ferencvaros beat Djurgarden 2-0 in the first qualifying round before beating Celtic 2-1 in the second phase.

The reigning Hungarian champions have also started the defence of their domestic crown in strong form, going unbeaten in their opening three games this term.

After drawing with MTK Budapest in their first game, Ferencvaros saw off Zalaegerszegi before thrashing Paksi FC 5-0 in their previous outing.

Meanwhile, Dinamo Zagreb finished 15 points clear of second-place Lokomotiva to clinch the Croatian top-flight title last season.

They only lost six of their 36 league games last term and finish with a hugely impressive +42 goal difference.

Dinamo Zagreb were entered directly into the second qualifying round for the Champions League. The Croatians drew 2-2 with Cluj before edging the Romanians on penalties.

Domestically, Dinamo Zagreb have been unstoppable so far this season. They have won each of their opening four domestic games, scoring 13 goals and conceding just two in the process.

HNK Gorica have also picked up 12 points from their opening four games, but Dinamo Zagreb are already five points ahead of third-place Hajduk Split.

Head-to-head: Interestingly, these two sides met in the third round of qualifying for last season’s Champions League.

The teams played out a 1-1 draw in Croatia before Dinamo Zagreb secured a thumping 4-1 victory over Ferencvaros in Hungary.

Team news: Ferencvaros have no fresh injury concerns ahead of Wednesday’s clash, with new signings Myrto Uzuni and Oleksandr Zubkov both in line to start.

On the flip side, Dinamo Zagreb will be without injured centre-back Dino Peric, although defender Stefan Milic could return to the team following a coronavirus scare.

Both sides are unbeaten so far this season, but Dinamo Zagreb’s winning streak is difficult to ignore. Granted, Ferencvaros have started well. But the Croatians come into this game as favourites.

Forebet predicts that Dinamo Zagreb will edge this game, with a single goal likely to be the difference between the two sides.
