Botafogo and Coritiba will meet in midweek in the Brazilian Serie A as both clubs seek three massive points to get away from the bottom three.

The Brazilian season hasn’t been kind to either club. Botafogo have collected just six points from 15 available. The club have lost just once thus far while claiming a victory and three draws.

That one loss came last weekend versus Internacional 2-0. Botafogo have scored just four times in five games thus far and are struggling to get goals.

Coritiba have also collected just six points. They have played one additional game compared to Botafogo. After losing their first four matches of the season, Coritiba are on a winning streak claiming back to back wins.

Like Botafogo, Coritiba have scored just four times. They were held to clean sheet losses in their first three fixtures of the Serie A campaign.

Botafogo and Coritiba have not played since the 2017 campaign. Coritiba earned promotion from Serie B last season but are experiencing the struggles of being newly promoted. When the teams last met in 2017, Botafogo secured four points from six possible.

Their success versus Coritiba helped send the Coxa down to Serie B. Coritiba could find themselves struggling to stay up once more. Just four points separate them from the bottom three currently. It is the same number of points that separate Botafogo from the relegation zone as well.

Botafogo have played two of their five matches this season at home. They took three points from the six available scoring two goals and conceding three times.

Coritiba have taken three points from nine on their travels. They have posted a –2-goal difference conceding five times and scoring three goals.

The Lone Star confirmed the release of three players this week in the build-up to the game. Defender Ruan Renato, left-back Danilo Barcelos and midfielder Cícero were all let out of their contracts by the club.

Cícero’s big salary made him an easy choice to be released while Renato found few playing opportunities in the first-team.

Coritiba have signed Hugo Moura from Flamengo. However, he may not be ready to appear for the club in midweek.

Botafogo may not be in the best of form, but they should find a way to win once more versus Coritiba at home. Botafogo are undefeated in their last 10 home matches against Coritiba in all competitions.

The Lone Star should pick up a big win and push their way up the table. Expect the both teams to score as the strugglers combine for over 2.5 goals scored.
