Atletico GO and Ceara have not had the best of times in the early stages of the Brazilian Serie A season. Ceara go into the weekend in 19th place. A win against Atletico GO would propel them out of the relegation zone and above Sunday’s opponents.
Ceara are second from bottom but just due to goal difference. They are level on four points with Atletico GO. Sunday’s home team, Atletico Go, have a game in hand. The additional three points could be huge in their fight for Serie A survival.
The Brazilian clubs have not played since the 2016 season. They were both in Serie B at the time of their last match. Atletico GO took four points from six when the two teams met in the 2016 campaign. Can they win once more when they play Ceara at home on matchday 6?
Atletico GO have only taken four points from 12 this term. All four points were taken at home. After defeating Flamengo 3-0, they drew 1-1 with Recife. Atletico GO have posted a +3-goal difference at home.
Ceará are winless on the road this term. They lost both games played away from home scoring just two times and allowing five goals against. It is the away form that is troubling both teams. Neither have won away from home.
Although Ceara have not scored many goals on the road this term, forward Cleber has tallied three of the team’s strikes. Ceara have scored just five goals as a team and Cleber has registered 60% of the scoring for the club.
There have been under 2.5 goals scored in 13 of Ceara's last 16 Serie A games. They have also lost six of their last seven away games in the Serie A dating back to last term. Those trends should both continue this weekend as Atletico GO win at home again.
Home is where the heart is for both of these teams in the early part of the season. If one, or both, can straighten out their away form, then perhaps they can move away from the bottom of the table. As it stands, it is the home form that is saving both clubs.
