The French Ligue 1 season resumes this weekend and we have some excellent looking fixtures to watch. The first game to kick off on Saturday the 22nd of August is between Dijon FCO and Angers SCO at the Stade Gaston-Gérard.
The hosts finished in 16th place last season on 30 points while the visitors were in 11th place on 39 points. However, it is worth remembering that the season was ended early and the table decided on an average of points earned per matches played.
Dijon FCO were struggling to win matches prior to the end of last season, winning only one of their final 6 Ligue 1 games. The victory did come in their final match of the campaign, 2-1 at home against Toulouse who were eventually relegated. Despite finding it difficult to win games, Dijon FCO were proving difficult to beat and lost only one of their last 5 league matches.
The defeat came at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain, so there was no shame in the loss and prior to that match Dijon FCO had drawn 3 straight matches in Ligue 1.
One glance at their home form and it soon becomes apparent how good Dijon FCO are when playing inside their own stadium. Trends show that they are on an unbeaten run of 12 home games in Ligue 1. There have been 6 victories in those 12 home matches including one against Paris Saint-Germain.
Angers SCO picked up a 2-0 home win against Nantes in what turned out to be their final match of last season. At the time, Angers SCO were building some positive momentum having also defeated Montpellier at home and Brest on the road. They proved to be 3 important victories to ensure their place in Ligue 1 for this season.
Angers SCO have kept a clean sheet in each of their last 3 league matches but towards the end of last season they were struggling to pick up wins away from home. Trends show they have won only 2 of their last 10 away Ligue 1 games. Scoring goals started to prove a big problem for Angers SCO and they have failed to find the back of the net in 3 of their last 4 away league matches.
Angers SCO have seen under 2.5 goals in each of their last 4 away Ligue 1 games.
Team news and Dijon FCO have three players on the treatment table with Alfred Gomis, Mama Samba Baldé, and Yassine Benzia unlikely to play any part in the game.
Angers SCO travel without any injury concerns ahead of this match. New signing Paul Bernardoni should take his place in goal while Souleyman Doumbia will also be hoping to make his debut at left back.

This match has the makings of being a low scoring affair and we could see under 2.5 goals scored. Angers SCO were struggling to score goals away from home towards the end of last season and Dijon FCO could win this game to nil.
