KR Reykjavik to struggle against in-form Valur

Despite holding home advantage at their KR-völlur ground for this upcoming clash against Valur on Saturday, KR Reykjavik look to have their work cut out when they entertain the early Urvalsdeild league leaders, Valur, as the visitors are in red-hot form.

KR Reykjavik dropped down to 4th place on the Icelandic top flight table after losing 2-1 at home to FH which followed previous back-to-back draws with Fjolnir and K Akureyri (KA) in 2-2 and 0-0 stalemates respectively.

Although they registered a narrow 1-0 win away from home at Valur earlier in the season, results for both teams have changed since then.

Saturday’s hosts have now failed to win any of their last three league matches which is certainly not a sign for alarm just yet, but having picked up just two wins out of their first five matches on home turf at their KR-völlur ground, this may not be enough to keep Valur quiet on Saturday evening.

Onto Valur then, and as mentioned, the early league leaders of the Icelandic top flight hold a four-point lead at the summit ahead of 2nd placed Stjarnan prior to this weekend’s action in the Urvalsdeild.

And having picked up four wins on the trot, the visitors will be in confident mood here.

Recent victories over Breidablik, Fylkir, Fjolnir and KA have helped lift Valur to the top of the division and although they’ve posted a mixed bag of results on home turf at their Origovöllurinn ground to date this term, it’s been their results away from home that have really caught the eye so far in this campaign.

Valur have picked up five away wins on the trot so far this season as the visitors have laid down a marker for the rest of the division to challenge their status at the top of the Urvalsdeild, picking up victories at Grotta 3-0, HK 4-0, Vikingur 5-1, Breidablik 2-1 and a 3-1 win at Fjolnir.

The manner of these victories have also been impressive and comprehensive, while the likes of forwards Pedersen (5 goals) and Larusson (4 goals) will be eager to add to their respective goal-tallies against an indifferent looking KR Reykjavik, as Valur look to avenge their earlier defeat to their hosts here with all three points.
