The Brazilian Serie A will see a round of midweek games as matchday 4 gets underway. One of the round’s biggest clashes will take place at the Beira Rio Stadium as third-place Internacional host seventh-place Atletico GO.
Internacional head into matchday 4 with six points from a possible nine. After winning their first two games of the campaign, Internacional lost last time out versus Fluminense 2-1. In spite of the matchday 3 loss, Internacional are still just three points back of first-place Atletico MG.

Matchday 4 opponents Atletico GO have collected four points from six points possible. They have a game in hand they will cash-in later on this season in Brazil. Atletico GO have posted a +3-goal difference having scored four times and conceded just once.
That one goal conceded came against Recife in a 1-1 draw. Manager Vagner Mancini will hope his team can continue their good form and move up the table with a positive result in midweek.
Internacional have played just one of their three matches this season in Serie A at home. They defeated Santos 2-0 in that game. The midweek fixture will be Atletico GO’s first away match of the season.
This week’s game will be the first between Internacional and Atletico GO since 2012. Atletico GO spent the last eight years in the lower reaches of Brazilian football. They achieved promotion to Serie A last term.
Between 2010 and 2012, the clubs met six times in Serie A. Three of those games ended in draws while Internacional claimed two wins. Atletico GO managed one victory during that time period.
Mancini has no new injury issues heading into the game versus Internacional. Having a full squad to choose from will do Atletico GO well as they come up against Serie A’s leading goalscorer.
Internacional’s Paolo Guerro is atop the goalscorer’s chart with three goals in three games. He has tallied 75% of Internacional’s goals. Not to be outdone, Atletico GO’s Jorginho has tallied two goals accounting for 50% of the team’s scoring.
Manager Eduardo Coudet could have Rodrigo Dourado back from injury in time for the match. He is recovering from an ankle injury and has returned to training.
Both Internacional and Atletico GO are in good form at the start of the Serie A season. Of the five games these clubs have combined to play this term, three of which have ended with under 2.5 goals.
The midweek fixture should see both sides find the back of the net with the game ending in a draw. Expect under 2.5 goals to be scored.
