Wolves and Olympiakos in low-scoring 2nd leg

Molineux will play host to this upcoming 2nd leg clash in the Europa League in the west midlands on Thursday evening but the usually boisterous home fans will not be in attendance for what is arguably Wolves’s biggest match of the season.

This 2nd leg is evenly poised as the scores ended all square in the 1st leg in Piraeus where it ended 1-1, and Wolves would normally fancy their chances of finishing the job in front of their noisy home fans, but Thursday night will be different.

Wolves had made an indifferent finish to their Premier League season recently as the hosts had managed to win just two of their final six matches overall, which were gained in wins over Everton and Crystal Palace both at home, but these were tempered by losses against Arsenal, Sheffield United and Chelsea.

Overall recent form at home though has been fairly solid as Wolves have lost just two of their last 12 matches in all competitions, while also keeping a total of eight clean sheets during this period too.

Indeed, Wolves manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, has really tightened his side up at the back  and this is evident when looking at the goals angle as 7 of Wolves’s last 12 matches at home have resulted in under 2.5 goals.

Onto Olympiakos, and the visitors might just feel as though an opportunity to get the upper hand over Wolves has slipped through their fingers as the Greek side make their way to the west midlands for Thursday’s 2nd leg.

Olympiakos had earlier qualified for the group stage of the Champions League but came a poor third place behind the likes of Bayern Munich and Tottenham having registered just one win throughout the group matches which was a 1-0 home win against bottom club, Red Star.

Nevertheless, on the domestic front, Olympiakos have once again qualified for the early rounds of next season’s Champions League as they finished 18 points clear at the top of the Greek Super League Championship group.

Olympiakos have been solid enough away from home though as the visitors have suffered just one defeat from their last 12 matches on their travels in all competitions, while goals have been fairly hard to come by with 7 of Olympiakos’s last 12 away matches also seeing under 2.5 goals.

This 2nd leg could therefore be another low-scoring affair with so much at stake for both teams.
