Wednesday evening sees the resumption of the Europa League and the clash between Italy and Spain as Inter Milan take on Getafe at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza with the hosts seeking out a fourth win on the trot in all competitions.
Inter Milan finished the domestic Italian top flight campaign in strong fashion as the hosts recorded three wins on the trot with victories against Genoa, Napoli and Atalanta to finish close runners-up to Serie A title-winners, Juventus, with just one point separating the two teams at the end of the season.
Inter will now turn their attentions to the European stage where they’ll be looking to progress to the next round of the Europa League at Getafe’s expense, having earlier finished in 3rd place in Group F of their Champions League group.
There are no second legs in this revamped version of this season’s Europa League competition, so Inter Milan have a great chance to make the most of home advantage here where they’ve won four of their last five Europa League ties which includes wins over Southampton, Sparta Prague, Rapid Vienna and Ludogorets.
Getafe narrowly missed out on European participation for next season’s competitions as the visitors finished on the fringes in 8th place and just two points behind 7th placed Granada who will go into the qualifying rounds of next season’s Europa League.
On the European front, Getafe secured their passage through to the last 16 of the Europa League thanks to a two-legged win over Dutch side, Ajax, winning 3-2 on aggregate after finishing runners-up in Group C to Basel with just one point between the top two teams.
This upcoming tie against Inter Milan could perhaps be dubbed as Getafe’s ‘final’ as he visitors seem to be at a distinct disadvantage as results away from home have generally been fairly ordinary of late, and they won’t get a chance to rectify things on home turf at their Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.
Having managed to record just one win from their last nine matches away from home in all competitions, and winning just two of their previous nine matches on the road in the Europa League, the odds seem fairly well stacked against the Spanish outfit progressing through to the next round.

Wins at Krasnodar and Trabzonspor are not of the same pedigree as that of Inter Milan and the hosts should win through on Wednesday night.
