Inter Milan head to the northwest of Italy on Saturday to the port city of Genoa to play the Grifone on matchday 36. Just three games remain in the Serie A season with Inter Milan seven points off of Juventus.
The Nerazzurri are unlikely to catch the league leaders unless something dramatic occurs over the next three games. Antonio Conte’ side are third in the league but won just twice in their last six games.
They face off with a Genoa side fighting for Serie A survival. Genoa won a dramatic derby versus Sampdoria in midweek 2-1. They have now won three of their last four games in the league and sit four points above 18th-placed Lecce.
The pressure is certainly not off of Davide Nicola’s team. Lecce have a winnable game against Bologna on Sunday and could reel in Genoa.
Inter Milan have dominated Genoa over the course of their last three Serie A meetings. Those games ended in wins to nil for the Nerazzurri.
Earlier this season, Conte’s side thrashed Genoa 4-0 at the San Siro. Romelu Lukaku scored a brace while Roberto Gagliardini and Sebastiano Esposito found the back of the net.
Inter Milan have Serie A’s best away points total with 37 points from 51 taken. They are unbeaten in their last four away games claiming eight points from nine available.
Genoa, on the other hand, have been one of Serie A’s worst home teams. Although their last two matches at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris ended in wins, they have been victorious just six times. Ten times they have lost at home and collected 19 points from 17 fixtures.
Nicola has two injuries heading into the game as Cristian Romero is set to miss out for the rest of the campaign. Ivan Radovanovic is also to miss the final three games of the campaign.
Conte has three players on the injury list. Stefan de Vrij, Matias Vecino, and Stefano Sensi are set to miss the game. Sensi is the only one of the trio that is near fitness and could return before the end of the campaign.
Six of the last 10 meetings between Genoa and Inter Milan were won by the former. Games between the two sides rarely end in draws. Genoa have been victorious at home over their last 10 meetings with Inter Milan.
But with the Grifone struggled at the bottom of the table, expect Inter Milan to win. Both teams should score as Genoa and Inter Milan combine for over 2.5 goals. The Nerazzurri should pull three points closer to Juve.
