Real Sociedad sit on the fringes of the top six in the Spanish top flight but they’re level on points with 6th placed Getafe ahead of this crucial encounter against Sevilla, and this is their last home match of the season and an opportunity to grab an all-important three points.
The hosts will be hoping that their visitors, Sevilla, may take things easy as they’ve already qualified for a Champions League spot next season, while Real Sociedad will be looking to post back-to-back wins following their 2-1 win away from home at 5th placed Villarreal last time out.
However, Real Sociedad may have their work cut out if they’re to take all three points here as the hosts have really struggled to find the elusive wins that will take them into the top six of La Liga in recent weeks.
Having managed to pick up just two wins from their last nine matches overall and just one win from their last five matches on home turf at their Reale Arena, it may be best to focus on the goals market here - especially as 13 of Real Sociedad’s 18 home matches have resulted in over 2.5 goals.
Onto Sevilla, and as mentioned earlier, the visitors have already booked their place in next season’s Champions League as they occupy 4th place and hold a comfortable nine-point over 5th placed Villarreal with just two matches of the season remaining.
However, if Real Sociedad are hoping that Sevilla may go easy on them and perhaps switch off, the hosts may have another thing coming as Sevilla have registered four wins on the trot heading into this clash.
Victories against Leganes, Eibar, Athletic Bilbao and Mallorca have helped Sevilla nail down a top four spot and the bigger picture shows us that the visitors are also unbeaten in their last 13 matches, so they may prove to be tough opponents for Real Sociedad here.
Sevilla are also unbeaten in their last six matches on the road too which includes wins at Getafe, Leganes and Athletic Bilbao, but they’ve also been held to three draws within this sequence too so perhaps an away win may not be guaranteed in this one.
Goals may well feature here though as 10 of Sevilla’s 18 away matches have also seen three goals or more, while Real Sociedad will be pressing for the win here.
