Saturday brings us the domestic cup final in Germany (the DFB Pokal) with Bayer Leverkusen taking on Bayern Munich at the Olympiastadion Berlin with Bayern Munich looking to secure the domestic ‘double’ at the expense of Bayer Leverkusen.
Taking a look at Bayer Leverkusen first, and their route to the German cup final started back in mid-August with a resounding 4-1 win away from home at Alemannia Aachen and was followed up with a 1-0 home win over Paderborn back in October.
A third round 2-1 home win over Stuttgart helped propel Leverkusen into the quarter-finals where they recorded a 3-1 win against the newcomers to the Bundesliga, Union Berlin, before scoring a 3-0 win away from home at Regionalliga outfit, Saarbrucken, in the semi-finals, who had themselves gone on an amazing cup run.
Bayer Leverkusen will now be facing the Bundesliga title-winners, Bayern Munich, in Saturday’s final but Leverkusen may be confident about their chances as they’ve won two of the previous three encounters.
The previous meeting between these two sides ended in a recent 4-2 win away from home for Bayern Munich in the recent clash at the start of June, and having romped to yet another German domestic top flight title (by a convincing and comprehensive 13-point margin over runners-up, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern will also be confident about chances here.
Bayern Munich’s run to the DFB Pokal started with a 3-1 win on the road at Energie Cottbus and this was followed up with another cup win away from home at Bochum with a 2-1 victory.
The 3rd round resulted in a high-scoring tie against Hoffenheim but Bayern Munich prevailed and took their place in the quarter-finals which saw them record a narrow 1-0 win on the road again, this time at Schalke.
A home tie in the semi-finals saw Bayern Munich hold sway over Bundesliga counter-parts, Eintracht Frankfurt, in this their first home tie in this season’s DFB Pokal, and they too will believe they have the necessary tools to finish the job here and claim a domestic double.

With everything on the line here, a straight winner may be difficult to predict here, but as each of the previous seven meetings between these two have resulted in both teams scoring, this looks the best play in this cup final.
