Smolevichi were the third side to gain promotion from last season’s 1.Division as the hosts finished runners-up to league winners, Belshina, and they gained a solid point in their first Vysshaya Liga match of this season last weekend when they held Dinamo Brest to a 1-1 draw away from home.
That result will undoubtedly give Smolevichi confidence ahead of this upcoming Sunday morning clash against Isloch Minsk and the guests may even be quietly confident that they can grab all three points given Isloch’s ordinary results at home at end of last season.
For their part, Smolevichi are unbeaten in their last 6 matches away from home in all competitions and their last defeat was back in August when they lost 1-0 to Khimik Svetlogorsk in the Belarusian second tier.
The guests are therefore a different proposition this season as they proved at Dinamo Brest last weekend when they took a point off last season’s Vysshaya Liga title winners, and with the likes of forward Barsukov who was Smolevichi’s leading goalscorer last term with 15 goals, the guests should ensure they at least hit the back of the net in this one.
Isloch Minsk got their season off to a good start also as the home side secured all three points with a 1-0 home win over Neman Grodno and will be looking to register back-to-back wins when they host Smolevichi.
Isloch finished in a creditable 5th place at the end of last season’s Vysshaya Liga campaign but this positive finish was largely down to their solid results on home turf at their Stadyen Haradski where they suffered just 2 defeats throughput their league campaign.
However, results at home were quite good as their record of 8 wins-5 draws-2 loses showed that, and they lost just 2 of their last 15 matches played at home, so they’ll head into this clash with renewed confidence.
Incidentally, 4 of Isloch Minsk’s last 10 home matches have also seen both teams score, and they too possess dangerous attacking personnel in the shape of forwards Yansane and Makas.
