The DFB Pokal quarter-final matches take place this week and there are two games to be played on Wednesday the 4th of March. One of which takes place at the BayArena as Bayer Leverkusen meet Union Berlin. This is a one off game to see which team will progress to the semi-final of the competition.
Bayer Leverkusen come into the match having picked up a point in a good 1-1 draw at RB Leipzig on Sunday. They may even be a little disappointed not to have won the game as Bayer Leverkusen took the lead in the match only to concede an equaliser from a corner just a few minutes later. That result means Bayer Leverkusen are undefeated in their last 8 competitive games in all competitions.
There have been wins over Borussia Dortmund and Augsburg at home in the Bundesliga plus away against Union Berlin in the same competition. Bayer Leverkusen won both the home and away leg of their Europa League tie against Porto and defeated Stuttgart at home in the DFB Pokal.
Home form shows 5 straight wins in all competitions and Bayer Leverkusen have scored 2 or more goals in each of those 5 victories. However, they have kept just one clean sheet in their last 4 home matches. Bayer Leverkusen have won 2 games in the DFB Pokal this season, both of which came at home.

Union Berlin picked up a point at home in the Bundesliga on the weekend as they were held to a 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg. They have performed very well in the German topflight having one promotion last season and currently sit in 10th place. Union Berlin have lost only one of their last 5 matches in all competitions but that defeat did come against upcoming opponents Bayer Leverkusen at home in the Bundesliga.
There have been victories at Verl in the DFB Pokal plus away at Werder Bremen and Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. Away form shows Union Berlin have won each of their last 3 games and they have scored in 10 of their last 11 matches on the road.
Union Berlin have played 3 games in the DFB Pokal to reach this stage of the competition. They have defeated Germania Halberstadt, Freiburg and Verl, with all 3 victories coming away from home.
Looking ahead to the team news and Bayer Leverkusen are still without forward Kevin Volland who has an ankle injury. Lars Bender and Niklas Lomb are both doubts.
Union Berlin travel with doubts over the fitness of Suleiman Abdullahi, Akaki Gogia, Joshua Mees and Laurenz Dehl. Manuel Schmiedebach is back in training following an abdominal injury.
There is no doubt that Union Berlin have the ability to make this a close game and should score a goal. However, Bayer Leverkusen are in excellent form and very good at home so should come out on top with both teams scoring.
