Sheffield Wednesday’s winning drought in the Championship came to an end on Wednesday night when they registered a much-needed 1-0 home win against Championship strugglers, Charlton Athletic, which ended a dismal run of 7 matches without a win for Garry Monk’s side.

Recent defeats to Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic, Luton Town and Reading had threatened to pull Sheffield Wednesday down further into the lower regions of the division, but instead, The Owls will be in a slightly better frame of mind ahead of this upcoming clash with Derby County.

Wednesday had also earlier suffered 4 defeats from their previous 5 matches at Hillsborough, so it remains to be seen whether Saturday’s hosts have genuinely turned a corner or if they just took advantage of Charlton’s poor set of results on the road.

Although it’s just 1 home win out of their last 6 matches for Sheffield Wednesday, there’s hope that we could at least see a few goals here as Derby possess the second worst defensive record away from home in the Championship, second only to bottom club, Luton Town.

Onto Derby County then and The Rams succumbed to a second defeat in four matches in the Championship during the week when they were handed a 2-1 loss at QPR, making it 20 consecutive away matches on the trot that they’ve conceded at least 1 goal.

The visitors head into this clash at Sheffield Wednesday having failed to win any of their last 4 matches overall, following a 3-2 defeat at Bristol City together with back-to-back draws with Huddersfield Town and Fulham, both of which were on home turf at Pride Park.

However, switch to results away from home and you’ll find that Derby have managed just 1 win out of their last 16 matches on their travels in the Championship which is an extremely poor record indeed.

That said, the goal markets appeal here as Derby possess the second worst defensive record on the road and have failed to keep a clean sheet from their last 20 matches on the road, or just 1 clean sheet from their last 27 away matches.

Sheffield Wednesday should therefore find their way to the back of the net here while Derby still carry a goal threat themselves, so we could see a few goals unfold at Hillsborough this Saturday.
