It seems that reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are not giving up their crown without a fight. The Bavarians have started 2020 with a bang in the German top-flight heading into Saturday afternoon’s trip to Mainz.
Bayern goes into the clash with the strugglers on the back of a 4-0 win at Hertha Berlin and last time out a 5-0 demolition of Schalke at the Allianz Arena.
The win over the latter means that Hansi Flick’s team have now won five straight games in the Bundesliga, having scored at least twice in all five wins. Worrying for opposition teams, they have also kept three straight clean sheets.

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has been on fire this season, scoring 21 times in just 19 league matches, a feat only previously achieved in the Bundesliga by German striking legend Gerd Muller.
The visitor's recent form has been enough to move them within a point of league leaders RB Leipzig. After winning three of their last four away matches in the Bundesliga, Bayern will be confident of wracking up another three points to keep the pressure on Julian Nagelsmann’s team.
Mainz faces Bayern at a really bad time, not there is ever a good time to face the reigning champions. The home side head into Saturday’s daunting task on the back of five defeats in their previous six Bundesliga outings.
The recent poor run of form has left the home side just three points above the relegation zone in the German top-flight. Poor defending is the main cause of their perilous position in the table.
It is little surprise that no team has conceded more goals than Mainz in the Bundesliga this season.
