Everton and Newcastle ready for mid-table clash

Everton and Newcastle United go head-to-head on Tuesday night with both teams boasting identical records in the Premier League this season. After 23 games, both sides have a record of W8-D5-L10.

However, the Toffees are one place above Newcastle thanks to their superior goal difference. Everton currently sit 11th, while the Magpies are 12th.

Everton come into this game in good form. New boss Carlo Ancelotti has got the team playing again, and this has seen Everton lose just one of their previous eight league games.

After spending large spells of the first half of the campaign lingering around the relegation zone, Everton are now looking up the table rather than over their shoulder.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin's fourth goal in five games helped Ancelotti’s side claim a point away at West Ham last time out. Calvert-Lewin is clearly thriving under his new manager and he is undoubtedly one of the division’s in-form strikers right now.

Newcastle will also be on a high as they travel to Merseyside. The Magpies stole all three points against Chelsea in their previous games thanks to an injury time winner from Isaac Hayden.

Despite their home advantage, Steve Bruce’s side only saw 30% of the possession against the Blues. Considering that Chelsea registered 19 shots to Newcastle’s seven, Bruce will be extremely happy with the way his team battled until the final whistle.

Newcastle are now unbeaten in their previous four games in all competitions. But after suffering defeat to Everton last month, Bruce’s men will be desperate to get a result this time around.

Calvert-Lewin scored twice at St. James’ Park in the reverse fixture at the end of December. Fabian Schar netted for Newcastle, but the Toffees put in a brilliant away performance to claim all three points.

It’s fair to say that Everton have enjoyed playing Newcastle in recent years. The Magpies have won nine of the last 12 meetings between the two teams and have scored over 1.5 goals on eight occasions in that time.

As for the team news, Everton were without key men Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison for the trip to West Ham, so Ancelotti will be hoping that both players will be fit for the visit of Newcastle.

Newcastle’s injury list continues to grow and Jetro Williams is the latest casualty in the camp. Bruce will have to make full use of his squad during this tricky period.

When you couple Everton’s recent record against Newcastle with the Magpie’s injury problems, Ancelotti looks set to enjoy another win as Everton boss on Tuesday.

Forebet predicts that the Toffees will once again score over 1.5 goals against Newcastle on their way to victory. Given Newcastle’s poor goalscoring record, a clean sheet could also be on the cards for the home side.
