On Tuesday night, Real Zaragoza will look to enhance their chances of promotion to La Liga from the Segunda, as they host Sporting Gijon.
The home side is currently in the play-off spots, but are also just six points outside the automatic promotion spots, with this game in-hand.
Zaragoza’s quest for a return to La Liga for the first time since 2012/13 has been pretty solid of late. However, a 2-1 defeat at Huesca in their last match of 2019 ended a run of four games unbeaten for the home side, three of which were victories.
The defeat also ended a run of prolific form in front of goal for Zaragoza, who had scored at least twice in their previous three league outings.
An inconsistent recent run of home form really has not aided the home sides chances of promotion back to the top-flight. In fact, Zaragoza have won just two of their last eight Segunda games at the Estadio de la Romareda. Zaragoza’s home games in the league have at least offered entertainment value of late, as four of their last five matches on home soil have produced over 2.5 goals.
Sporting Gijon are closer to the relegation zone than the play-off spots, just three points clear of the drop zone. However, due to the congested nature of the table, the visitors could be just five points outside the play-off positions with a victory in this clash.
Gijon have won two of their last three matches in the Spanish second tier, so things may be looking up for Miroslav Dukic’s team.
They have also been hard to beat on their travels of late in the Segunda, losing just once in their last five matches away from home. However, they have won just two of their last ten away games.
Forebet predicts that Zaragoza will record a victory in a high-scoring clash to aid their chances of finishing in those much-coveted promotion spots.
