Atletico Madrid to cruise to the last-16 against Lokomotiv

Atletico Madrid have experienced a mixed campaign so far in season 2019/20, both at home and abroad. On Wednesday night, Diego Simeone’s side has a must-win home clash against Lokomotiv Moscow in Group D of the Champions League.

The scenario is simple for Atletico, if they win, they book their place in the last 16 of the competition. The Spanish team head into gameweek six just a point clear of German team Bayer Leverkusen, who face a tough encounter with group winners Juventus in the other game in the group.

A win may not be simple for Los Colchoneros though, as they have failed to win in their last four games in all competitions.

One of those winless games came in gameweek five of this competition, as Atleti went down 1-0 at group leaders Juventus, which sealed top spot for the Bianconeri.

One positive for the men from Madrid is their recent home record in the Champions League, as they are unbeaten in eight home matches, having recorded six wins. They have also kept clean sheets in five of their last seven matches in the Champions League on home soil.

Unsurprisingly considering the other teams in the group, Lokomotiv Moscow have struggled for results. In fact, the Russian side has only avoided defeat once in the group, when they recorded a matchday one victory in Leverkusen. Their results have gone downhill since.

The visitors have now lost their last four straight European games while conceding two goals in each encounter.
