Group H of the Champions League is one of the most intriguing heading into match day six of the competition. Two of the teams hoping to seal spots in the knockout stages, Ajax and Valencia go head-to-head at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Tuesday night.
The Dutch side only need a draw to seal their spot in the knockout stages of the competition. However, Erik ten Hag’s team will want to top the group, which they can only be ensured by recording a victory in this clash.
Ajax are currently two points clear of second-place Chelsea, who face Lille in the other game of the group, and also two points ahead of visitors Valencia.
Last season’s surprise semi-finalists will be highly confident of booking their place in the knockout stages of the competition against the Spanish outfit.
Ten Hag’s team heads into this potentially vital encounter on the back of a shock 2-0 defeat to Willem ll in the Eredivisie. However, the defeat looks to be a blip, rather than the start of a collapse for the Dutch champions.
The fact that the home side has won three of their last four Champions League games at the Johan Cruyff Arena will send them into this game in confident mood.
Valencia knows that they only have to better Chelsea’s result to go through. However, that is easier said than done when the Blues definitely have a more favourable fixture, on paper anyway.
Los Ches have enjoyed an inconsistent campaign so far, but things look set to pick up for Albert Celades’ team, as they have won their last two games in La Liga. However, just one win from their last four European outings does not bode well for away win in the Dutch capital.
