Pressure on Both Teams as West Ham Meet Arsenal

The final match of the weekend in the Premier League takes place on Monday night at the London Stadium. West Ham United take on Arsenal in a match which is vital for both teams and a win would be massive for whichever team can get it.

West Ham United begin the weekend down in 15th place in the Premier League. There is a possibility they could have slipped into the relegation zone by the time this match begins and that will only increase the pressure on the players and manager. Arsenal fell to 10th place following the midweek fixtures and much like their opponents there is a good chance they will have dropped further down the table prior to kick-off.

The Hammers come into this match having lost 2-0 at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday night. It was a disappointing result having enjoyed an excellent 1-0 win at Chelsea last weekend and West Ham fans were hoping for a similar performance at Molineux but it did not materialise.

That result means West Ham have lost 4 of their last 5 Premier League matches and have won just one of their last 9 Premier League games. Home form shows 4 league matches without a victory including 3 defeats up the hands of Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur. Both teams found the back of the net in each of those 4 games and 3 of the 4 matches saw over 2.5 goals.

Arsenal suffered a very disappointing 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion on Thursday night at the Emirates Stadium. That result means that following the sacking of Unai Emery, Arsenal have picked up 1 point from a possible 6 having been held to a 2-2 draw at Norwich City last weekend.

Trends show Arsenal have failed to win any of their last 9 matches in all competitions. They have picked up 5 draws, one of which includes the League Cup tie against Liverpool which they lost via a penalty shootout. Premier League form shows no wins in the last 7 games for the Gunners. In addition to the home defeat against Brighton Arsenal have also lost at Sheffield United and Leicester City.

Away form shows 3 defeats and 3 draws in their last 6 Premier League games on the road and Arsenal failed to keep a clean sheet in any of those matches.

Looking ahead to the team news and West Ham are without the injured duo of Lukasz Fabianski and Manuel Lanzini both of whom are important players. Jack Wilshere is a doubt due to a groin injury.

Arsenal make the short trip to the London Stadium without Daniel Ceballos who continues to struggle with a hamstring injury. Rob Holding is attempting to recover from a knee problem.

This is a massive game for both teams and considering their defensive record we should see each of them find the back of the net in this match. It is difficult to split them on current form but Arsenal have defeated West Ham in 15 of their 19 most recent encounters in all competitions and seem to have the upper hand over the Hammers.
