It has been mixed campaign for Bundesliga outfit Schalke. The team from Gelsenkirchen took just one point from their opening two games. However, since those early struggles under new coach David Wagner, Die Knappen’s form has improved greatly.
Their form has improved so much that a home win over Union Berlin on Friday night would not only move them into the Champions League spots but also level on points with league leaders Monchengladbach.
It has not all been plaining sailing for Schalke, as their form has been steady rather than spectacular, as a record of two wins in their last six outings illustrates.
However, a four-game undefeated run in the German top-flight is not to be sniffed at and their form under former Huddersfield head coach Wagner is certainly promising.
If Schalke are to maintain their lofty position in the German top-flight, then their away form will have to improve. Schalke have drawn their last three games at the Veltins Arena in the German top-flight. However, they have recorded a disappointing two league wins from their last 14 outings on home soil.

Union Berlin looked like relegation fodder for the first few weeks of the season. In fact, the team from the German capital suffered five defeats in their first seven outings in the Bundesliga.
However, since the end of October, Union’s form has improved dramatically, as they have won four of their last five games in the Bundesliga. Urs Fischer’s team have been much-improved at both ends of the pitch, as they have kept clean sheets in three of those recent four wins, while also scoring at least twice in three of the four victories.
Union even made a spot of history in their last away game by beating Mainz 3-2, as it was their first-ever Bundesliga victory on their travels.
