Leeds to consign Luton to fifth defeat on trot

Luton Town slumped to a fourth defeat on the trot just before the international break when they were handed a heavy 3-0 defeat away at a resurgent Reading side, leaving The Hatters dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Having suffered recent defeats to Fulham, Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest and the aforementioned Reading, Luton now sit just one league position and just 1 point above the bottom three prior to this tough upcoming fixture against high-flying Leeds United at Kenilworth Road this Saturday.

With just 2 wins out of their last 10 matches overall in the Championship, Luton’s current form suggests it could be a long, tough season from here on in with their situation looking quite bleak despite wins over Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City, the 7 defeats within this period have far outweighed the positives.

Results at home have been mixed for Luton Town as The Hatters have also recorded a win over Huddersfield Town (but it should be noted this was pre-Cowley), while defeats to Hull City and Nottingham Forest have prevented the hosts from pulling away from the relegation zone.

Onto Leeds United, and it’s been another successful start to this new Championship campaign for Marcelo Bielsa’s side as the visitors currently occupy 3rd place and are just 2 points shy of Championship leaders, West Brom ahead of this weekend’s action - but can Bielsa achieve what many other Leeds managers before him have failed to do?

And that’s to achieve promotion back to the Premier League - last season’s promise throughout the campaign ultimately ended in failure as Leeds first blew seemingly certain automatic promotion, and then losing in the play-off semi-finals, so the pressure is certainly on to go a step better this time around.

Leeds bring an impressive sequence of results though into this clash as the visitors are unbeaten in their last 5 matches following recent disappointing defeats at Charlton Athletic and Millwall.

They’ve recorded wins against Birmingham City, QPR and Blackburn Rovers which were all registered at Elland Road.

The visitors are without a win in their last 4 away trips though, but a visit to an out of form Luton Town side who are struggling for confidence may just be the perfect situation for Leeds as they look to redeem themselves on the road and capture a third win on the trot.
