Two teams who have made poor starts to the new La Liga campaign go head-to-head on Thursday night, as Celta Vigo host Espanyol.
Celta kick-off this clash just a point ahead of their visitors in the Spanish top-flight. Neither team has covered themselves in glory so far in reality though. Celta Vigo have picked up just five points from as many league outings this season.
A goalless draw at Atletico Madrid last time out was a highly respectable result for the home side. However, it means that Celta are now on a run of three matches without a victory in La Liga.
They have an inconsistent recent home record in La Liga, winning just one of their last four matches at Abanca-Balaidos. However, a record of five wins in their last eight home matches in La Liga is a very respectable one.
Espanyol have made a slightly worse start to the new Spanish season than the home side, having picked up just four points from their first five La Liga outings.
A 3-1 home reverse against Real Sociedad means the Catalan side have lost three of their opening five matches.
They have also conceded at least twice in all three league defeats this season. The visitor’s defensive solidity towards the end of last season seems to have gone missing in the new campaign.
Espanyol have not been easy opposition for teams on their travels of late in La Liga, as they are unbeaten in six matches. They have also suffered just one defeat in their last ten away games in the Spanish top-flight.
