Paris Saint-Germain aim for five straight Ligue 1 win against Reims

Paris Saint-Germain suffered a shock defeat away to Reims last season, 3-1. The Parisians now aim for some payback as they host Ligue 1’s eighth place team in midweek play in France.

Reims head into the fixture at the Parc des Princes seven points behind the reigning Ligue 1 champions. Inconsistency has been the name of the game for the red and white. Reims are winless in their last two matches with a 1-0 loss away to Nantes and a nil-nil draw at home to Monaco.

Manager David Guion must mastermind another shock result if Reims are to get any points in Paris. Reims have lost back to back away matches as they were beaten 1-0 in both fixtures.

Reims’ matches have been incredibly low scoring this term. They have scored just four times while conceding two goals to their opponents.

Paris Saint-Germain will aim to increase Reims’ goals allowed total. The Parisians are atop Ligue 1 once more although just three points separate them from both Angers and Nice. Paris Saint-Germain have tallied 12 goals while conceding just twice in six matches.

Their leading scorer to this point isn’t Neymar or Kylian Mbappe, rather it is Eric Choupo-Moting. The former Stoke City player has three goals in Ligue 1.

Paris Saint-Germain defeated Lyon away last time out to show they can grind out results when needed. Neymar scored the team’s only goal after returning from a suspension that kept him out of Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League win over Real Madrid.

Mbappe is currently on the sidlelines with a torn thigh muscle injury. He should be back in the coming weeks but isn’t likely to be fit in midweek. Edinson Cavani and Mauro Icardi also missed last weekend due to injury.

Manager Thomas Tuchel has had an injury crisis on his hands. However, the German manager has plenty of firepower in his ranks to shoot down the likes of Reims. Prior to their loss last season to Reims, Paris Saint-Germain had gone unbeaten in eight of nine matches against their Wednesday night opponents.

Six straight matches between Paris Saint-Germain and Reims have finished with both teams scoring. Meanwhile, seven of their last eight games finished with over 2.5 goals scored.

Paris Saint-Germain are grinding out results this season with their last three matches all ending with under 2.5 goals scored. Based on history, however, Wednesday night’s fixture should see over 2.5 goals find the back of the net at the Parc des Prince.

Tuchel’s Paris Saint-Germain will pick up another victory as both teams score in the French capital.
