Rosenborg down 2 goals going into UCL second leg

Norway’s Rosenborg are down 2-0 heading into their Champions League second leg match against Dinamo Zagreb. The Norwegians have it all to do at home on Tuesday night.

Dinamo Zagreb scored two goals in the opening 30 minutes of the first leg fixture thanks to Bruno Petkovic and Mislav Orsic. The Croatian club were outplayed by Rosenborg collecting 47% possession. Yet, Dinamo Zagreb still tallied five shots on goal putting two past Rosenborg.

The Norwegians head into the fixture following a win at the weekend against Stabaek, 3-2. It was a good tune up for Rosenborg as they tallied 27 shots with 14 on target against their Norwegian rivals.

Rosenborg are fourth in the Eliteserien with 32 points from 57. They sit just eight points behind first place Molde in the league. If they are going to come back against Dinamo Zagreb, Rosenborg will need to transfer some of their form from the Eliteserien over to the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Dinamo Zagreb had the weekend off from domestic league play. They will be rested going into the midweek fixture as they travel to Norway.

The Croatians joined the Champions League qualifying rounds at the second stage. Dinamo Zagreb defeated Saburtalo Tbilisi 5-0 on aggregate. Then, they beat Hungary’s Ferencvaros 5-1 on aggregate.

In five Champions League qualifying matches, Dinamo Zagreb kept four clean sheets. Defensively they have been brilliant and held Rosenborg to a shut out in the first leg.

Rosenborg haven’t reached the Champions League group stage in over a decade. The Norwegians last reached the group stage in 2007. Rosenborg had been regulars in the Champions League group stage at one time. However, the last 12 seasons have seen them experience a drought.

Alexander Soderlund leads Rosenborg in goals in the Eliteserien. The forward has scored six goals on the domestic front which has accounted for only 20% of the team’s goals.

Dinamo Zagreb’s Petkovic has tallied six goals already this season. The forward scored in the first leg against Rosenborg and is good value to score once more on Tuesday night. Petkovic has scored in four of Dinamo Zagreb’s five Champions League qualifying matches.

Rosenborg have it all to do on Tuesday night. They are down two goals going into the second leg and could be open at the back. Manager Eirick Horneland’s team needs to find an early goal to give themselves a chance.

However, Dinamo Zagreb’s defence has been great keeping four clean sheets. Can they keep a fifth away from home on Tuesday night?
