Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen both suffered defeat last weekend on the opening gameweek of the new Bundesliga season. The pair meet on Saturday afternoon at the PreZero Arena.
Hoffenheim opened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win away at Eintracht Frankfurt. Meanwhile, Werder suffered a surprise 3-1 home defeat against Fortuna Dusseldorf. Both teams will be desperate to get off the mark points-wise in Saturday’s clash.
The opening day defeat means that Hoffenheim have failed to win in their last five Bundesliga games, suffering four defeats in the process. Their poor run of games towards the end of last season cost them any chance of landing a European berth for this season.
Hoffenheim have lost the last two home games in the German top-flight, having previously won four home matches in a row on home soil. Ironically, their final home game of last season was a 1-0 defeat by Werder.
They had also been prolific before the late slip-ups at home, scoring at least twice in the aforementioned four home wins.
Werder Bremen experienced an inconsistent campaign last season, so losing the opening game of the season at home to Dusseldorf may not have been a massive surprise.
A record of two wins, one draw and three defeats show their inconsistency towards the end of the Bundesliga campaign last season. Their Bundesliga games at the season were at least high-scoring, though, as four of their final five league matches produced over 2.5 goals.
The visitors away form was also highly inconsistent. In their last nine away games in the Bundesliga, they won three, drew four and lost two of their matches in the German top-flight.
Forebet predicts that both teams will at least pick up their first point of the campaign with the game finishing in a low-scoring draw.
