Sheffield Wednesday lost their first match of this new season when they suffered a 1-0 defeat away at Millwall at The Den on Saturday afternoon in the nation’s capital.

They’ll be confident they can turn things around when they return to Hillsborough on Tuesday night to face newcomers, Luton Town.

Sheffield Wednesday have made a reasonably impressive start to this new season with caretaker-manager, Lee Bullen in charge after former manager, Steve Bruce left the club to take over at Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Bullen oversaw Sheffield Wednesday’s early back-to-back wins in the Championship with victories gained over Reading in a 3-1 win away from home at the Madejski Stadium which was followed up with a 2-0 home win against Yorkshire rivals, Barnsley.

Defeat at Millwall was therefore disappointing, but as The Owls have lost just 2 of their last 15 matches on home turf at Hillsborough in the Championship, Tuesday night’s hosts will be confident that they can bounce back with a win in this encounter.

In addition, Sheffield Wednesday have also kept 9 clean sheets from these last 15 matches at home too.

Onto Luton Town, and it’s been a meteoric rise from the National League to the Championship in recent years for The Hatters who return to the second tier after years of frustration in the lower echelons of the English football pyramid.

Luton were involved in a 6-goal thriller with Middlesbrough as they introduced the new Championship season with the curtain-raiser at Kenilworth Road, but since then, the results have gone against the Bedfordshire side as they’ve been handed back-to-back defeats in the second tier.

Losses in quick succession to Cardiff City and West Brom, both by 2-1 margins, have resulted in Luton Town sitting amongst the early strugglers towards the foot of the Championship table, and although they progressed in the League Cup recently, it’s points in the Championship that really matter to the visitors.

A 3-1 home win over newly relegated League One side, Ipswich Town, in the League Cup has been The Hatters’ only real highlight so far this season, and manager, Graeme Jones, will be hoping that they can leave Hillsborough with at least a point on Tuesday night.

Sheffield Wednesday’s solid form at Hillsborough shouldn’t be overlooked though and the hosts could well edge the points here.
