On Thursday night, Croatian side Rijeka host Scottish outfit Aberdeen in the Europa League third qualifying round first leg.
This will be Rijeka’s first taste of European action this season, while Aberdeen have already had to progress through two rounds to get to this stage. The ties were not exactly taxing for the Dons, though, as they comfortably saw off Finnish side RoPS and Georgians Chikhura in the last round.
Despite not featuring in the Europa League yet this season, the home side has extensive experience in the competition. In fact, they have appeared in the competition in the last six seasons. Their last appearance in the Europa League was last season when they suffered elimination at the hands of Sarpsborg at this stage.
In reality, Rijeka have struggled for results in Europe of late, winning just two of their last 13 matches in the Europa League, while also winning just one of their last five outings in the competition.
The Croatian sides recent home record in the Europa League is also poor, as they have suffered defeat in four of their last six games on home soil.

Aberdeen have a good recent record in the Europa League, mainly courtesy of those aforementioned wins in the earlier rounds. Derek McInnes’ team have won three of their last four games in the competition.
The Dons have made it one round further than they did last season when they suffered an extra-time defeat against Premier League Burnley.
The visitors have an inconsistent recent away record in the Europa League, winning three of their last nine matches on their travels. Their recent away games in the competition have been relatively low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last eight matches.
Forebet predicts that Aberdeen will be involved in another low-scoring clash, with this clash finishing in a goalless draw.
