On Thursday night, two British teams go head-to-head in the Europa League first qualifying round second leg, as Kilmarnock host Connah’s Quay at Rugby Park.
The first leg finished in a 2-1 win for the SPL side and the home side are big favourites to progress to the second qualifying round. However, the visitors will feel they gave a good account of themselves in Wales and that the tie is far from over.
The Welsh side are the more experienced side in this competition of late, having featured in the Europa League in the last four seasons.
In truth, their record is a woeful one in the competition, though, as they have now lost their last four games in the competition while conceding at least two goals in each defeat. They have also lost six of their last seven outings in Europe’s secondary competition.
In contrast to their hosts, Kilmarnock do not have much experience in the competition at all.
In fact, prior to the first leg, the Scottish side had not featured in the competition since 2001, which was their only ever campaign in the Europa League.
Although it may mean very little, considering the time gap, Kilmarnock have lost just once in their five games in the competition.
The visitor’s recent history of away games in the Europa League does not bode well for a comeback in this tie, as they have suffered defeat in their last three matches on their travels while failing to score in all three games.
The home side should have too much for the visitors, who look set for yet another tough night in the Europa League. Forebet predicts that the Scottish side will keep that record up in this clash by recording a victory in a high-scoring clash.
