AIK aim to close gap at top of Allsvenskan against Elfsborg

AIK aim to close gap at top of Allsvenskan against Elfsborg
    12/07/19 2075

Stockholm’s AIK are six matches unbeaten against Elfsborg in Sweden’s Allsvenskan. AIK aim to make it seven matches undefeated against the Boras-based club on Saturday.

AIK sit third in the league and six points off of first place Malmo. The Gnaget can inch themselves closer to Malmo this weekend with a victory, although Malmo will play on Sunday against Djurgaarden.

Elfsborg are comfortable in eighth place in the Allsvenskan. The Yellow Ones have collected 18 points from 42 possible. Elfsborg have struggled in their last five matches failing to gain a victory.

Jimmy Thelin’s team must go away to the Friends Arena in Stockholm, a stadium in which AIK have lost just once this term. Elfsborg have managed just one victory this season away from home. That win came against Sirius, 4-2, in late April.

Elfsborg have gone over two months and four away matches without a victory. Three of those away fixtures ended in losses. Elfsborg have been outscored 9-3 in their last four road games.

AIK will be licking their lips heading in the fixture. However, Rikard Norling’s team are wounded. AIK lost in midweek to Avan Academy in the Champions League first qualifying round, 2-1. The good news for Norling was his team collected an away goal.

Their Champions League first round qualifying fixture took place in Armenia. Norling’s squad could be fatigued from the journey to eastern European during the week. However, AIK are one of the Allsvenskan’s premier clubs.

The Gnaget are undefeated in 34 of their last 38 league matches. It is a stat that will surely intimidate Elfsborg on Saturday.

AIK have collected the third-best home points total this term. They have tallied 17 of 24 points, however, their last two home matches ended in just one point from six collected.

Norling’s team has absolutely dominated Elfsborg over their last six meetings. Their last two games in the Allsvenskan have ended in Elfsborg being held to two clean sheets. The Gnaget have outscored Elfsborg 12-6 in their last six games.

AIK striker Tarik Elyounoussi leads the Allsvenskan in goals scored with nine. He has tallied 53% of AIK’s goals this term in the league. Elyounoussi hasn’t scored in his last four league matches for AIK, however. Could he end the drought against Elfsborg?

Saturday’s fixture between AIK and Elfsborg will finish in another victory for the home side. Like their last two matches against Elfsborg, the fixture will be low scoring with under 2.5 goals tallied at the Friends Arena.
