DC United look to bounce back against New England

DC United’s 5-match unbeaten run in the MLS came to an end last time out when they were handed a 2-0 defeat away at Dallas last Thursday.

DC United now return to their Audi Field where they’ve lost just twice so far this season, and this is where the hosts will be turning to as they seek to bounce back with all three points in this encounter.

Although they’ve suffered defeats to Los Angeles 4-0 and New York City 2-0, DC United have since put together a solid 6-match sequence without losing on home soil, a run that consists of 3 wins and 3 draws.

The victories were recorded against Columbus Crew, Sporting Kansas and Orlando City, while draws with Chicago Fire, San Jose Earthquakes and Toronto have seen the hosts add valuable points to their tally which has kept them in the hunt for top place in the Eastern Conference.

Midfielder Acosta (5 goals) and forward Rooney (10 goals) have provided the bulk of DC United’s goals to date this season.

Onto New England Revolution then, and the visitors occupy the fringes of the play-off pack in 8th place in the Eastern Conference, but are level on points with 7th placed Toronto ahead of their trip to Washington.

New England also come into this match having made significant improvements on their results as they bring a 7-match unbeaten sequence into this clash.

This impressive turnaround in form includes victories over San Jose Earthquakes, LA Galaxy, Houston Dynamo and Colorado Rapids, while also picking up points in draws with Montreal Impact, DC United (at home) and Philadelphia Union.

Results have also picked up on the road too as New England have picked up 7 points from their last 3 matches on their travels, although they have already suffered 4 defeats on their travels so far this season.

In addition, recent history has been unkind to New England whenever they’ve visited the nation’s capital as they’ve lost all of their previous 7 visits to Audi Field against Friday night’s opponents, DC United.

So, although they’ve picked up in recent times on their travels, New England may well be facing another tough night in Washington on Friday as they look to try and overcome their psychological block against DC United.
