The Maracana will host Brazil and Peru in the final of the Copa America 2019 on Sunday.
This will be Brazil’s 20th Copa America final appearance and they are aiming to clinch their ninth title.
On the other hand, Peru have only ever featured in two finals but claimed the trophy on both occasions.
Their most recent triumph came all the way back in 1975 and they come into this match as underdogs.
When the two teams met earlier in the tournament, Brazil beat Peru 5-0. This was the final match in Group A and it meant that Brazil finished three points clear of Los Incas.
The Samba Boys beat Paraguay on penalties in the quarter-finals and then claimed a famous 2-0 victory over Argentina to reach the final.
Peru also won their quarter-final with a penalty shootout, overcoming Uruguay to set up a semi-final tie with holders Chile. They thrashed La Roja 3-0 to secure their spot in the final.
Considering the strength of their squad and their role as hosts, Brazil were the pre-tournament favorites to claim the Copa.
After a less than convincing start which saw them booed off the pitch by their own fans in their first two matches, Brazil have eventually fulfilled expectations.
With South American heavyweights Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay all failing to reach the final, Brazil will see this as a great opportunity to claim the title on home soil.
Peru began the tournament as one the outsiders and only just managed to scrape through to the knockout stage after finishing as one the best third-placed teams amongst the groups.
No one expected them to reach the final and Peru will not mind their underdog tag.
Peru have only managed to beat Brazil on four occasions over the years. The two teams have met each other 45 times, with Brazil claiming 32 victories against Los Incas.
There is currently an evident gulf in class between the two sides and this was highlighted by their meeting earlier in the tournament.
Brazil’s squad is packed with big-name stars and with home advantage on their side, they will be confident of securing their first Copa America title in 12 years.
Peru will put up a fight however Forebet predicts that Brazil will win the final on Sunday.
