Despite holding home advantage at their Children's Mercy Park, Sporting Kansas look to have their work cut out on Wednesday night when they play host to Western Conference leaders, Los Angeles.
Sporting Kansas currently sit in bottom place of the Western Conference and trail the play-off pack by 5 points ahead of this important clash with Los Angeles, and the hosts will be keen to get back on home turf following a 4-match road trip.
Two draws, a win and a defeat was Sporting Kansas’s return on their recent travels with points picked up against Houston Dynamo and Toronto in 1-1 and 2-2 draws respectively, along with a 1-0 win away at Columbus Crew.
A 2-0 loss away at Real Salt Lake rounded off their road trip on a losing note though, and although they return to their own backyard for this encounter, recent results for Sporting Kansas haven’t been convincing.
The hosts have recorded just 1 win out of their last 6 matches at their Children's Mercy Park which was a 3-2 win over Seattle Sounders.
Los Angeles occupy pole position in the Western conference and hold a commanding 6-point cushion ahead of 2nd placed local rivals, LA Galaxy, prior to their trip to take on bottom club, Sporting Kansas.
The visitors head into this clash looking to avoid a second defeat on the trot though after being handed a 1-0 loss away at Colorado Rapids last time out in their 3-match road trip.
Los Angeles had previously posted a 3-2 win at Portland Timbers, and will no doubt be keen to return to winning ways in their last away match of this road sequence, and in turn extend their lead at the top of the Western Conference.
That defeat at Colorado Rapids was only their second defeat of the entire season so far for Los Angeles, and they’d previously put together a 4-match unbeaten sequence prior to their loss at Colorado.

In addition, Los Angeles won the last meeting against Sporting Kansas back in March at their Banc of California Stadium with a 2-1 victory, and they’ll be looking to register another similar result on Wednesday night in Kansas.
Sporting Kansas’s recent average results at home provide Los Angeles with the perfect opportunity to bounce back with a win here.
