Sweden’s Allvenskan action will end this weekend with two matches on Monday evening. Second-place team Djurgardens will host 11th-place side Kalmar in one of those two fixtures at the Tele2 Arena.
Djurgardens are six points off of top Allvenskan team Malmo. Kim Bergstrand’s team won its last four matches in the league. Djurgardens have a game in hand and could pull closer to Malmo on Monday night depending on results elsewhere.
Kalmar are winless in their last four matches with two of those games ending in losses. The Red Brothers, who finished 10th last term, have managed just two wins in 12 games. Kalmar are just three points off of the relegation places.
They will be looking over their shoulders at the weekend when visiting the Tele2 Arena. A loss and results elsewhere could see Kalmar fall into the bottom three.
Despite Djurgardens’ lofty position, they haven’t been great at home this term. They have collected 11 points from 18 possible. Their last two home matches ended in victories by a combined scoreline of 5-1.
Djurgarden are +3 in goal difference at home. They have allowed seven goals on their own ground which is the sixth most in the Allsvenskan.
Forward Mohamed Buya Turay has scored five goals for Djurgardens to lead the team in scoring. He has accounted for 24% of Djurgardens’ goals this term.
Kalmar have collected six points from 18 possible on their travels. One of their two wins in the Allsvenskan has come on the road. That victory was against Sundsvall, 2-1. Kalmar have scored a paltry four goals away from home and will struggle in Stockholm on Monday.
The Red Brothers have scored just one goal in their last four away matches. The club has gone 360 minutes without scoring.
The good news for manager Magnus Pehrsson is Kalmar have conceded just five away goals. It is their defence that is keeping them in games.
Although Djurgardens have been the better side this term, the two teams have been even in their last six meetings. Djurgardens have posted a 3W-0D-3L record against Kalmar in their last six games in all competitions dating back to 2016.
Djurgardens have won three of the last four matches between the teams. Monday’s fixture should once again see Djurgardens claim another victory over Kalmar. The Stockholm-based team will pull closer to Malmo as they attempt to rein in the league leaders.
