Uruguay and Peru will complete the 2019 Copa America quarter-finals in Salvador on Saturday.

Uruguay snatched the top spot in Group C from Chile with a dramatic late win in their last match which meant they avoided Colombia in the last eight.

Peru qualified as the best third place team in the competition, despite losing their last match 5-0 to host nation Brazil.

They began their campaign with a 0-0 draw against fellow quarter-finalists Venezuela. Despite playing the last 15 minutes of the match with a man advantage, they failed to come away with all three points.

In their second match, goals from Paolo Guerrero, Jefferson Farfan and Edison Flores secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over Bolivia.

Peru managed to qualify with four points after they were thrashed by Brazil in their final group game. This performance will have concerned head coach Ricardo Gareca and they must improve if they are to compete against Uruguay.

La Celest opened their 2019 Copa America account by beating Ecuador 4-0. They limited Ecuador to just two shots and commanded the possession throughout. Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani were among the scorers.

They were then held to a surprise 2-2 draw by Japan. Despite registering a stunning 29 attempts on goal, Uruguay failed to a find a winner after twice coming from behind.

They overcame Chile in their final group match thanks to an 82nd minute Cavani goal. The experienced striker’s late effort saw Uruguay leapfrog La Roja and claim top spot in Group C.

Head coach Oscar Tabarez became the first ever head coach to reach 200 games in charge of the same nation in their win over Chile. He will be hoping his squad has what it takes to bring him the Copa America title this year.

Uruguay are the most decorated nation in the history of the competition with 15 Copa America triumphs. Peru have two titles to their name but their most recent success came all the way back in 1975.

The last time these two teams met in the Copa America, two Luis Suarez goals helped Uruguay beat Peru in the 2011 semi-final.

We are likely to see a similar outcome this time around. Uruguay have a much more experienced squad and should have too much quality for Peru on Saturday.

Forebet predicts a Uruguay win, with the possibility of over 2.5 goals.
