Rosenborg have won 14 of their last 16 matches in all competitions against Vaalerenga. The Norwegian side aims to make it 15 matches with a win against their rivals when the two meet on Sunday at the Lerkendal Stadion.
Eirik Horneland’s team won the Eliteserien last term, but have not started the new year well. Rosenborg have obtained just 12 points from a possible 30 and sit in 11th place.
Rosenborg have improved recently with their last two matches ending in wins. Surprisingly, those wins were just their second and third of the league season.
Vaalerenga have been better this season taking 17 of 30 possible points. The Enga did lose at home in their most recent match to Lillestroem, 3-0. That loss ended a five-match unbeaten run for the Oslo team.
Chidera Ejuke leads Vaalerenga in goals this term with four scored. He has accounted for just 24% of Vaalerenga’s scoring. The club has bagged the third most goals in the Eliterserien with 17 from 10 matches.
Vaalerenga’s downfall has been their goals conceded record which stands at 13. The club allow 1.3 goals per game and are coming off of that 3-0 lose to Lillestroem.
In contrast, Rosenborg have tallied the third fewest goals in the Eliteserien. Just eight goals have been scored and half of those have come in Rosenborg’s last two matches. Horneland’s team has conceded 13 times which is middle of the pack in the Eliteserien.
Matches average 2.72 goals in the Eliterserien and compared to some of the other Scandinavian leagues, it does see plenty of scoring. Four of Rosenborg’s last six games have seen over 1.5 goals scored.
Not only have Rosenborg dominated their last 16 matches against Vaalerenga but they have scored plenty of goals when they have met.
Rosenborg have scored over 1.5 goals in 15 of their last 17 home matches against Vaalerenga in all competitions. Four of their last six meetings in all competitions have seen over 2.5 goals scored.
Despite Rosenborg’s sluggish start to the season, they have been good at home in the league. They have posted a 2W-2D-1L record in the Eliterserien on their home ground. Their most recent home fixture finished in a 3-2 victory over Mjoendalen.
Rosenborg should continue their fine form over Vaalerenga as they get their season on track. The Troll Children will pick up another win against their rivals and over 2.5 goals will once again fly into the back of the net on Sunday.
