The mid-section of the Eliteserien table is highly congested with a number of teams vying for positions near the Europa League spots.
Two of the teams who will be hoping to challenge for one of those spots are Lillestrom and Viking who meet on Sunday evening at the Arasen Stadion.
The visitors are currently eighth place in the standings but are just three points outside the European spots. The home side are slightly further down the Norwegian top-flight table in tenth. However, a victory in this clash would put them above the visitors in the standings.
In truth, both teams have been inconsistent in the Eliteserien of late. Lillestrom have won just one of their last five outings in the league, while Viking have recorded just one win in their last six games in the Norwegian top-flight.
Just one win from their last four home games in the league rather sums up Lillestrom’s recent form. Meanwhile, Viking have been poor on their travels in recent matches, suffering defeat in five of their last seven away matches.
These two teams look well matched on paper. There is very between little between the pair. The fact that both teams have won twice in the last six league meeting between the pair and two matches have finished in draws sums up the parity between the two teams.
Their recent league games have been close encounters, as there has not been more than a goal between the two teams in 14 league games.
This clash could be pivotal for both teams. Although it is early in the season, a win could propel them up the Eliteserien table. However, it seems that the pair could be left frustrated in their efforts to climb the table.
Forebet predicts that there will once again be little between the two sides, with this clash finishing in a low-scoring draw.
