Title Surely Out of Reach for PSV

Title Surely Out of Reach for PSV
    15/05/19 2461

We have reached the final day of the 2018/19 Eredivisie season and it appears Ajax have already wrapped up the title.

They are 3 points clear of second placed PSV Eindhoven but their goal difference is so superior, it would take a huge swing for anything to change.

On Wednesday night, PSV host Heracles at home knowing they need to secure a massive win and hope Ajax suffer a big defeat.  Heracles have secured a Europa League playoff place but a win could see them improve their position in the table and enjoy a better draw.

PSV suffered a 1-0 defeat at AZ on the weekend which all but ended their title hopes for this season.  It was a disappointing defeat to a team who remain 22 points behind them in the league table.  It is their only defeat in their last six matches and they have lost two in their last twenty games in all competitions.

Home form is excellent and trends show PSV Eindhoven are undefeated in their last thirty-three league matches at the Philips Stadion.

They have scored 2 more goals in fourteen of their last sixteen home Eredivisie games and three or more goals in eleven of those sixteen matches.  Scoring goals is clearly not a problem on home soil and PSV will need plenty of them if they are to push Ajax close for the title.

Heracles lost 5-4 at home to Excelsior in what was a thrilling game on the weekend.  Having led the match 4-2 with under 20 minutes remaining, the hosts managed to somehow concede 3 goals, one of which was in the 89th minute and the other in the 91st minute to lose the game.

It was their second straight defeat following a 2-1 loss at AZ and trends show Heracles have won two of their last six league games.

Away form is not good and Heracles Almelo have won three of their last thirteen away Eredivisie games. They have no problem scoring goals but keeping clean sheets has proved a problem.  Heracles have one clean sheet in their last seven away league games and have conceded 2 or more goals in four of them.

However, they have not lost by more than a single goal in their last five away matches, including the tricky games at Feyenoord and AZ.

Team news and PSV look set to be without Ryan Thomas, Yannick Van Osch, and Hirving Lozano for the final game of the season.

Heracles also have a few names who could be missing with Robin Propper definitely out while Zeki Erkilinc, Sebastian Jakubiak and Niels Leemhuis are doubtful.

PSV will be desperate to end their season on a high following the result on the weekend.  Expect to see them attack hard from the first whistle and we could see a home win with both teams scoring.
